News brought to you by IQPC.

The UK's new Lynx helicopter will be called the Wildcat, it has been revealed.

In a ceremony at manufacturers AgustaWestland in Yeovil, minister for defence equipment and support Quentin Davies announced the official name of the craft, which is set to come into service in 2014.

"This is a good moment to pay tribute to the progress that has been made on this very important programme and to signify the importance which the government attaches to it," he said.

The Royal Navy is set to take delivery of a total of 62 of the AW159 Lynx Wildcat light helicopters.

According to Mr Davies, the choppers will offer a range of capabilities including anti-submarine operations and anti-surface warfare.

Recently, it was revealed that Curtiss-Wright has secured a contract to supply fly-by-wire control systems for Calverham's Sikorsky UH-60M Upgrade and CH-53K helicopters.

The deal is worth a total of $20 million (£14 million).
