Boeing is mulling a bid for a $1 billion (£0.67 billion) helicopter contract on offer from the Indian government, it has been revealed.
According to Chris Chadwick, president of Boeing Military Aircraft, the company is giving serious thought about an attempt to land the deal which will see the winning firm build 22 attack helicopters and at least a dozen heavy-lifting choppers for the country.
Speaking to assembled journalists, he said: "My assumption is that the request for proposals will be different this time as they [India] will want more companies to participate and we'd certainly like to compete."
The deal could see the firm providing the country with its Apache AH-64D Longbow system, and the firm plans to bid, he added.
It is the second time the Indian government has put this contract out to tender, the last deal had to be scrapped as the short-listed firms were unable to meet its needs.
Recently, the Xinhua news agency reported that India is set to equip its paramilitary forces with their own helicopters.
